Thin women — fertility problems? ?
I’ve always been thin (I’m 5’3″ and have always averaged 97-102 pounds — about 7 stone — for my entire adult life). I’ve been trying to get pregnant for 1-1/2 years now without any luck. My gyn ran a series of tests to rule out any medical problems and concluded that I just need to gain weight, namely body fat, to boost my estrogen levels. I’ve upped my weight by a few pounds, but to be honest, I’m not convinced my weight is the problem. I’ve never over-exercised (I’m far too lazy) or restricted my calories — I weigh what I weigh! Have any other thin women struggled to get pregnant? Many thanks for your help!

That is a big problem in lots of women. Most can usually gain about 7 pounds and become pregnant very quickly! best wishes**
I am also thin (110 pounds for 5’6″) but I have had no problems conceiving so far. My thyroid works normally and I’m neither anorexic nor aneamic. I eat what I love, except when I’m pregnant, but I am also very active, not in the sport sense but more like I am always on the go. Maybe the physical activity is the key.
It very well could be a problem. The big question is what is your BMI rather than your actual weight. I think that you want a BMI of at least 18. However getting pregnant with less than that is possible.
I had this problem when trying to conceive #2. We tried for 3 years, when the gyn sent me for one last ultrasound before trying fertility meds. The dr. there said the lining of my uterus was super thin, and if I gained some weight, that would probably help. Needless to say, a few months later (and about 15 extra pounds), I was pregnant! It’s always worth a shot when TTC!
