Really? I know IVF is great for those who have blocked tubes, endo, PCOS. What about unexplained infertility?

Question by ablessedwife: Really? I know IVF is great for those who have blocked tubes, endo, PCOS. What about unexplained infertility?

We are in the pre-IVF cycle. We will begin process after I complete BCP. The more and more stories I hear of success are from those who have blocked fallopian tubes, endo, pcos, detectable infertility issues, but what about me who have normal bloodwork, normal laparoscopy and open tubes. We have no answers for why (DH is normal). So really, what about unexplained infertility and IVF?

Presumably, you have never actually been pregnant, so they just have to assume that there is nothing about your uterus that would prevent an embryo from attaching until proven wrong.

i just finished my first cycle of IVF. It really is a breeze. I have no issues but my husband has a low count. This is why we haven’t been able to conceive, because his sperm don’t have the ‘power’ to reach my eggs. So IVF gave us the opportunity to have the sperm and egg meet.

We had great results with the protocol and had many eggs fertilize and all that fertilizes kept growing until day 5. It’s all about the numbers, the more follicles you have, the more eggs you’ll have retrieved, the more eggs you have the more will fertilize, the more fertilized eggs you have will grow to day 5, the more you have to transfer and the more that you will have to freeze. It’s all in the numbers.

We transferred 2 fresh from that cycle and got a positive HCG result. Our embryos (at least one) implanted. So we were able to take it medically and scientifically as possible, it was just up to nature at that point to take it from there. So IVF worked for us, it did what it was suppose to do.

Unfortunately, my pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, not fault of IVF. It was just that, the pregnancy wasn’t viable and the embryos stopped growing. We were given the same chance of miscarriage of that of the general population. And it happened to us.

So if you have everything going right for you, hormonal wise, you’ll be fine. Your body will know what to do as mine did. My levels through out the entire cycle were where they should be, and I was told that I was a perfect candidate to have even one transferred. We choose two to increase our odds.

I wish you all the best in your IVF cycle, it’s really not bad at all, I think it affects women more if they aren’t used to the hormones. I didn’t notice much, I was sensitive but not really. The only discomfort is in the tummy where your ovaries are. You will feel them, and be aware of them, but they aren’t any worse then having your menses.

    Here are our stats:
    Me 28, DH 26.5
Lupron, Puregon (200iu) Progesterone Agonist protocol
14 eggs retrieved, 13 injected (ICSI) – for male infertility
    8 fertilized, 8 blastocysts
    top two transferred
    3 frozen

it’s all in the numbers, you’ll be counting your follicles in no time! Good luck
and remember God makes no mistakes. This has helped me get through infertility, it’s just the way our life is.

Our diagnosis was unexplained infertility – I ovulated just fine on my own, DH had a normal count, no blocked tubes . . . 3 unsuccessful IUI cycles with Clomid, 3 unsuccessful IUI cycles with injectibles . . . and then we opted for IVF. Our twins will be 2 in August from that very first and only IVF cycle.

IVF is the great equilizer – whether you have unexplained infertility or whether your tubes are blocked – you take the BCP to have a clean slate and then they control everything using the fertility meds . . . so the issue no longer matters with the exception of egg quality and response to the meds.
