Getting Pregnant – Urgent Tips and Answers Needed!?

I am 18 and have been on the pill since i was 14, up until last year when i stopped taking it. My boyfriend and i stopped using condoms in April, with the intention of me getting pregnant as soon as possible. We live together and have sex every day (lucky us lol) My period is like clockwork every 28 days and i have worked out roughly when i ovulate. I would like to know how long on average it takes for someone to get pregnant.. Im becoming abit of a pregnancy hypocondriac LOL as nothing has happened yet, and i know it has only been a few months but i cant help thinking my lifestyle and other things are affecting my chances of getting pregnant.

When i was 16 i had an abortion, (I am not proud of this and was basically foced by my mum to terminate the pregnancy, looking back id say it was for the best as the father would not have been there and i probably wouldnt have the good life and great job i have today.) I am wondering if this could affect my chances of conceiving in the future.

Also i heard that caffeine is bad for people trying to conceive – i drink ALOT of diet coke.. what amount is safe to drink?

Does alcohol affect chances of getting pregnant also..?

Im not a health freak but im not a slob either. I am carrying a few extra pounds but my bmi says im at the top end of a healthy weight for my height age etc.

Basically im asking for Tips, and the Main dos and Donts really. Ive googled alot but id like to hear some advice from real people.

Thanks everyone who will take the time out to read and respond (Y)

what makes you think this new baby-daddy boyfriend will be there for THIS baby?

you dont want to get pregnant, have him run off, and decid you want ANOTHER abortion, do you?

Get married before you have a baby, so you know the man will commit to it, PLEASE.

Your body takes some time to adjust when coming off the pill so it may be that your body just isn’t ready for it.

Also it can take some women no time at all to get pregnant and some woman a long time. I think that if you haven’t concieved a year after trying then you should visit a fertility clinic.

In a very small percent of cases abortions can cause difficulties and affect conception later in life. But it is very rare. I you are worried express your concerns with your doctor.

Just keep having regular sex and hopefully it will happen.

I think really you’re doing all you can do to get pregnant. Try to limit your diet soda intake. Here is a piece of an article that I got off the internet:

    4. Diet soda is dangerous to drink when pregnant.

MYTH. Although there are a couple of things to note here: When folks are talking about the dangers of diet-soda-drinking while pregnant, we can assume they are referring to one of two (or both) things: 1. Concern about artificial ingredients and 2. Concern about caffeine. We talked a little about the artificial stuff earlier and when in doubt, it is best to limit consumption of anything artificial. But a little is fine and there has been no hard evidence that moderate consumption of diet soda has any adverse effects on fertility and/or a healthy pregnancy. One a day is the typical mandate here. Regarding caffeine, while it is known that excessive intake of caffeine can be harmful and is not recommended for those trying to conceive or for those currently pregnant, one or two caffeinated beverages per day are just fine.

Here is the website if you want to check out the rest of it: http://www.healthcentral.com/diet-exercise/c/8534/14500/diet-sodas

It can take a person a year to conceive so try to be patient. Hopefully it will happen soon for you!

I can’t answer all your questions as I am not sure about abortion affecting future pregnancy. But if you are trying to get pregnant you should certainly cut way back on caffiene, diet soda, and no alcohol. These are all not good for a growing fetus. Talking to your doctor about the amounts of diet soda to drink would probably be the best. Take prenatal vitamins and eat healthy to ensure your body is healthy and your future baby will get all the essential nutrient it needs to grow strong. I think the average amount of time it takes to get pregnant is 6 months, so you could be trying for a bit longer. I don’t mean to sound like a mothering type, but also just make sure you are ready for this big change in your life. Babies are a 24 hour 7 day a week job and if you are looking to go back to work daycare can get very exspensive. You won’t realize how much having a baby changes your life until you have one and don’t get me wrong it is a wonderful experience. But with that said you are young and have LOADS of time to have children. Once that baby comes there won’t be much time for you and your boyfriend to spend alone.

    Good luck!!

We have been trying for over a year now, I was on the pill for five years and implant for two. Please be patient.

I was the same as you, drink about 3-4 litres of Diet Coke a day, I have since been made to stop drinking it by my man as the caffine is not good but it can also have some lomg term damage on your body. Please follow the link below.

Make sure you are taking your pre-natal vitamins as well.

It is recommended that you don’t drink alcohol after you ovulation date as you don’t know if you are pregnant yet.

Carrying those few extra pounds shouldn’t do too much damage. If it did then you wouldn’t see overweight pregnant women.

An abortion can decrease the chances of getting pregnant again, it all depends on the technique used. If you are concerned ask your doctor to run tests to check everything is okay.

You could also chart your periods and ovulation dates at
http://www.mymonthlycycles.com to give you an idea of when the best times to have sex are.

    Good luck.

studies suggest that the more the man has sex the better the sperm will be… so either he has retard sperm right now or you should have him on top ( Gravity is an Ally of yours).

i might sound like an old priest… but wait tell you get married to have a kid so you don’t end up raising a kid by yourself… like my sister who has 2 kids…

  10. Chloe says:

Well, every woman is different. It can be really difficult for some women to get pregnant, whereas for others it takes them one night of sex to become pregnant. Nothing is wrong with your lifestyle, but your intake of caffeine and alcohol, if you drink, can really hurt you. All of that kind of dries your body out. You should definitely drink more and more water.

As for sex, you seem to have a healthy sex life, so nothing needs to change there. I’d say just take a visit to your doctor. Chances are you might already be pregnant. And, if, in the end, you still have not conceived, your boyfriend might want to take a visit to his doctor, and slow down on the coffee and Alcohol.

Alcohol and caffeine are to strong for a growing embryo, so when you become pregnant stay away from these as much as possible. If you do consume them more than once or twice a day, you are putting your baby at serious risks for birth defects and mental handicaps. Also, a few extra pounds is good for a baby. Extra insulation means your baby will be warm and cozy :)

just because shes 18 doesnt mean she is stupid. She is planning this pregnancy because she is in a loving relationship. Ive been engaged for 3 years and i had my daughter with my fiance in February 2008 we are now ttc #2. We love each other but are saving to get married as we want a nice wedding!!! lol sorry to go on hate people like that…..

Anyways hun, if your cycles are normal every month then i dont think that the abortion would have affected your body. I would say that B/C pills mess up your cycles so my advice would be keelp charting your temps every morning as you wake up on this great website,,,

    http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/285e56

My advice would be dont get stressed out on the Do’s and Don’ts!! Do it when you want to do it, eat healthy as you are doing and leave it down to fate – drinking coke is good for you as long as you don’t over do it :]

Good luck to you and your B/F. Hope you get that BFP soon x x x x
