If you have already tried surgery, fertility drugs and artificial insemination and still nothing, your doctor more than likely will suggest IVF. Other good candidates are women who suffer from endometriosis, irregular ovulation, problems with their uterus or fallopian tubes and or the men who suffer from low sperm count.
Age is not necessarily a disqualifying factor when doctors are considering IVF for a couple over 35 that have been unsuccessful in conceiving, but it is definitely taken into consideration. The success rate for older couples (over 35) will decrease as they increase in age. If you are between the ages of 35 and 37, the success rate is roughly 25% per treatment. Compare that with the percentage rates for women over 40, who only have a 6 % to 10% of becoming pregnant per treatment.
